Kabbalistic Meditation

Modality:

  • Explain the basic principles behind the modality with referenced material.
  •  Kabbalah is rooted in the Jewish tradition, which speaks of the One in terms of “God.” Yet as you will see if you learn Kabbalah, that word does not mean what you think it means. In fact, we might say that it means the opposite.

There are two basic types of Kabbalah:

  • Kabbalah iyunit, "contemplative Kabbalah," seeks to explain the nature of God and the nature of existence via intellectual and meditative techniques.
  • Kabbalah ma'asit, "practical Kabbalah," seeks to alter the nature of existence and change the course of events via ritualistic techniques. Sometimes practical Kabbalah involves summoning spiritual forces, such as angels, and commanding them or causing them to swear to perform a certain act or function in reality.

  • Who first developed the modality? Or elaborate on the historical timeline of the modality.

Abraham Abulafia (1240–1291), leading figure in the history of "Meditative Kabbalah", the founder of the school of "Prophetic/Ecstatic Kabbalah", wrote meditation manuals using meditation on Hebrew letters and words to achieve ecstatic states.[6] His work is surrounded in controversy because of the edict against him by the Rashba (R. Shlomo Ben Aderet), a contemporary leading scholar. However according to Aryeh Kaplan, the Abulafian system of meditations forms an important part of the work of Rabbi Hayim Vital, and in turn his master the Ari, Rabbi Isaac Luria[citation needed]. Kaplan's pioneering translations and scholarship on Meditative Kabbalah[7] trace Abulafia's publications to the extant concealed transmission of the esoteric meditative methods of the Hebrew prophets. While Abulafia remained a marginal figure in the direct development of Theosophical Kabbalah, recent academic scholarship on Abulafia by Moshe Idel reveals his wider influence across the later development of Jewish mysticism.

Technology:

  • Is the technology a diagnostic device, a treatment device or both?
  • Kabbalah is an ancient Jewish mystical system of meditation that teaches the profoundest insights into the essence of God, how He interacts with the world and the purpose of creation. Kabbalah and its teachings are an integral part of Torah, the entire body of Jewish wisdom and teachings, both the Oral law and the Written law. Some Jewish scholars even suggest that Torah is the hand-written scroll of the Divine Law or the Five Books of Moses.

Conditions Treated:

  • What specific imbalances can be addressed by this modality/device?
  •
  • Kabbalah meditation explores the complex character of the divine reality particularly the inability of the human thought to grasp Him. It uses various techniques including meditations on Hebrew letter permutations and combinations and the ways in which   sefirot or the  supernatural forces harmonize and interact with each other. These meditative techniques produce visionary experiences of the angels and their residential chambers. Another important objective of Kabbalah is to rectify the imperfections of the soul rather than creating spiritual knowledge.
